Hills Login

1. Connect to the Internet through your Internet Service Provider.

Open your connection program, for example - SSH Secure Shell, and connect to your hills account.

the host is hills.ccsf.edu

2. First time login:

a. At the login prompt:

Enter your hills login and hit enter

b. At the Password prompt:

At the Password prompt, enter the 3 letter abbreviation of your month of birth + 2 digits of your day of birth + 2 digits of your year of birth. For example: June 17, 1965, the password would be jun1765. Note that Jun1765 will NOT work. Do not use any caps.

IMPORTANT: When entering a password it will appear as if the cursor does NOT move, but it is in fact accepting it. After entering your password then hit the enter key.

If you now see Terminal type? [ansi] then hit enter.
You should now see the $ prompt, which means you successfully have logged in.

[Note 1: If you had recently taken a class in which you used a hills login, then enter the password that you used in that class, instead of following the above first time login instructions.]

[Note 2: If you receive the message, "Login incorrect", then you must send me an email regarding this, and I will contact the sys admin to reset your password. Please include in your email to me, your current login and password.]

c. When you receive [LOGIN@hills ~]$
You have successfully logged into hills.

3. You should now have your login and password to hills.ccsf.edu, which you need to use in uploading files to the hills server with your FTP program.

4. IMPORTANT: In 3 months, you will be prompted to change your hills password. To change your hills password at any time, enter passwd at the $ prompt.
